Thought i better start a topic up.

Collected this yesterday...

Basically, it will be my current mini, but blue and more of a MK1 style.

Been busy today stripping an old race shell. Will have some updates soon.

Its not to bad, theres a bit of surface rust on the strengthening metal work. Also quite a bit of the wood has suffered from damp, but im going to cut it all out anyway as i dont need it. Its not structural, well it definately isn't at the moment!

I've just got a lot of work to do to get everything to fit. Like i need a new subframe as this has twin bolt mountings.

I'm not sure what to do about the reg yet.

It will be for sale at some point, maybe even sell it as a whole mini with all the spare bits I have. Minis seem to be worth a lot complete at the moment.

Yea I did see it. Looked very nice, I don't think it met the reserve or he removed it from eBay.

Well the the rear quater windows are not the standard size! I thought they should be but there at least an inch to big. The windows dont even fit in the recess let alone the lip for the seal :/

yup its poly windows in the back. The front windows do not 100% if you take a close look because the top of the frame is modified as well. It is cut down on the sides and then in the middle so making it smaller but the windows still make a good enough seal :-

Ahh thanks for that. Makes sense, I was getting worried. Hopefully im getting a set of fibre glass doors so I won't have to mess about fitting steel ones.

I looked into fibreglass doors but then decided not to go with them as hey are very flimsy and you can't use glass or a wind up mechanism. Plus the only company that sell them which is arc angels have copied a pair of doors which were repairs of originals which doesn't make for a good fit. Also i personally don't like the bottoms on them as they look like they are missing the bottom lip like on normal mini doors which surrounds all of the door card, and also would compromise giving a good water seal with the rubber door seals as the rubber would be floating on the bottom not butted up against a raised bit on the door like in normal sized cars. What i have done is rebuild my doors and use the replacement panels for the bottom of a normal mini door and making a nice curve instead of just chopping it of like a hack job and welding a flat piece on the bottom and hammering or completely cutting a piece out on the bottom corner of the door which is what the minus people did when they made up the doors. To be honest i'd go for steel doors still. I am personally going to have mine dipped and e coated so they are completely covered. I have the advantage of one of the only places that do it in the U.K are up the road from me :-. I hope this helps.

Regards Blue

interesting to see another, good luck with it!

mine didnt meet the reserve.... so i still have it.... need it gone realy as ive bought another car and owe myself! lol

the minus was built using a mk1 shell as a basis, as you can see you still have the original mk1 rear lights base, the rear window is mk1 size, unless its been cut to accept the wider mk3 type... (which by the looks of it yours has) the rear quaters are therefore also mk1/2 size, as mk1/2 minis were slightly lower on the windows, thats why the doors dont fit on mk3 cars, apart from being the wrong shape at the base....
