the drag will affect it at higher speeds more than the extra weight.
you'd better hope your alternator is in good nick too. It's a lot of current that will be needed.
Karl is right that consumption will be worse with the lights, but without a doubt the biggest factor is the extra weight of the paint on the engine Unless it's red of course, in which case it'll be more powerful and do 400mpg.
aha! i knew the drag will effect it but not so much the electrical charge

spots are recognised as high beam lamps (hence they should be only switchable when main beam is on)
so they are not the light when you 'flash' someone, there just main beam?

When you flash someone, it's the full beam that flashes, so the spots will flash aswell as coming on with full beam.

Again, depends how you wire it.

even though i broke my spots, i still have the loom there, as sometimes you catch the main beam and to be honest, the blue light on the dash is pathetic and you dont notice it.
So when i put my main beam on, the blue switch still illuminates, as a much more visible reminder that theyre on

The way i did mine was, fitted them relayed from the main beam bullet connectors at the front, then fitted an inline switch in the relays switch wire, so when i flash, the switch illuminates, and i can switch the spots off if i feel the need.

i just remember same as knowing what gear im in, i always remember to switch them off with oncomeing traffic unless the on coming guy has HID's

I'm trying to think exactly how the flash is switched, but I believe that if you put a switch in the system, and basically just leave them "on", then whenever you flash, so will they.
do u know any where i could find a diagram for the lights? thanks

you need to tap into the blue/white wire that comes off the stalks. Wire that through a switch to a relay (mounted on the inner wing so it's close to the starter terminal.) Then you use the relay to power the lamps. I think i posted a wiring diagram on here not long ago, so have a search for my posts.
edit: I didn't. oops! Here's one anyway...
