Cheers Ben! I got offered £5K for her yesterday, not sure if it was a genuine offer as the bloke did have a smell of the strong drink about him, I turned him down!

So a wee update on how the Clubby is going, she's actually going pretty damn good! I've done a fair few miles on her since my last post, I've had her out at every chance. This includes a run out on New years day, also a wee run yesterday in sleet showers! However she didn't quite enjoy this as it was so cold I had to turn up the fuel enrichment screw because she was running lean the whole time when she was fine the week before, so no more runs on really cold days! I've done a few things on her, I sent the carb away to AC Dodd to check over, he told me the carb was fine it was the needle, spring and oil that was wrong! So I also had a few go's at profiling needles and have ended up with one that gives a decent readout on the AFR gauge, picks up good with no flat spots. I also fitted an ITG foam filter and MED stub stack which has improved things and gives a lovely snore! Doing the Vizard mods to the HIF is next on the list. I've fitted a pre verto set up, I got a lightened flywheel and standard backplate from Andy Sutherland up in Thurso. Got the job done on Friday evening and took her for a test run, vast improvement over the standard verto. I used an orange diaphragm and did a bit of work to get the diaphragm spring flat when everything was bolted together and made sure the drive straps were parallel to the flywheel, the resulting pedal was more or less the same weight as before with no judder when it bites. Also the engine is running more smooth than before, this is with a big run out wobble according to the dial gauge! Well worth the hassle and money, and now can lighten it further if I want. I also changed the mech fuel pump to a facet one mounted on the rear sub. I never liked the pump and pipe work right next to the exhaust. I also got rid of a slight oil leak from the pump where it mounts to the engine. I stated before that I was wanting to get her down to Andy Sutherland to get her set up on his rolling road but I fear that won't happen. Ferry costs to get from Shetland to Orkney then over to Caithness is over £350! That's before any garage bills or food and lager. So unless I get a little lottery win then I don't think it'll happen, shame as she's lovely to drive as is so if he could sort her a bit more then It probably would be worth it! I've really enjoyed driving her so far and look forward to many more runs out in her!

A year and a half on from my last post, these updates can take a while! Car has been running great all year, can't really complain at all. I had the head off repairing an oil leak from the rear of the head at no1 cylinder at the end of last year and took the chance to fit new guides, do a 30 deg back cut on the valves, recut the seats so that the tops of the valves are all at the same height relative to the top face of the head, checked the chamber volumes and cleaned up the first attempt that I did on shaping them. Fitted the head and she ran lovely! Also had her on a rolling road that opened recently, very interesting couple of goes on that! Got the needle tweaked to give a good amount of fuel throughout the range. Runs great now. Changed the wheels to 12" Revolutions and Yoko's which has also improved things. We took her down to Orkney for a short break and to attend a classic show that they have every year. Four of us squeezed into her touring Orkney for a couple of days was great fun, well it was for me! We also had our own bi annual  show this summer in Shetland which went very well. Currently started stripping out the interior today to change a lot and sort out a couple of issues, should keep me going over the winter. All in all a great year of mini ownership.https://drive.google...iew?usp=sharinghttps://drive.google...iew?usp=sharinghttps://drive.google...iew?usp=sharing

So I finally got the vast majority of the work on the interior done this weekend and at last got her out of the garage for a wash and much needed run. Nothing fancy was done to the interior just replaced a lot of things with off the shelf items. First job was to make new mounting brackets for the Saxo 106 GTi seats. The old ones were welded onto the floor so no adjustment was available. When I finished mounting them the first time around I found that the drivers seat was slightly off square and the front edge of the seat was too low. So I cut out the old brackets and welded on flat plates with countersunk headed screws welded into them. New brackets were made with slotted holes to fix down onto the threaded studs thus giving me plenty of fore and aft movement and the ability to shim them higher if need be. A fair bit of work later gave me fully adjustable mounts enabling me to get the seats all square, at a good height and the runners were able to work a lot better. Incidentally one of the runners decided to fall apart in the middle of it and I lost the most of the ball bearings that was in the runners! I ended up going through a skip that is outside a local bicycle repair shop taking apart old cycle frames trying to find suitably sized ball bearings! I did end up finding some and reassembled the runner and got it working lovely! I also had to repaint the drivers door frame due to a crack at the front of the frame where it joins the door along with a few paint chips. Also a rusty mark that I found under the windscreen rubber. All the glass bar the rear side windows was replaced with new along with a good secondhand rear screen. Roof lining was replaced with a good condition one from a mk3. A new black carpet fitted from Somerford to replace the worn out red one. Door cards from Huddersfield spares but didn't end up using the rear pair. Also the standard alloy handle set. A new gloss black dashboard from Minispares that fitted better than the original rover one but sadly found a chip on one corner that I can't remember seeing when I opened the box so think I'm responsible for it! I'm waiting on some replacement decals for an early set of GT clocks so fitted my old set for the moment. Fitted a variable controller for the fan speed and also replaced the horrible ribbed plastic pipes that goes from the heater up to the windscreen with smooth silicone pipe to improve airflow which it has done to a degree but I think the heater box itself needs looking at. The only arse I made of things is when I wired up the interior light wrong resulting in a short and a burnt out feed wire. I then spent best part of 2 hrs stripping the loom, checking the condition of things and doing a few repairs. I now have no interior light but I can live with that. Nasty lesson learned! A heater pipe blew off when I had her on a fast idle sitting outside whilst washing her about the engine bay giving me a hot shower and a bit of a scare but was all quickly sorted. Better happen there and not out on a run. I also fitted a new wood rimmed steering wheel which I prefer over the leather one and also spray painted the plastic column cover as it was a bit rough. I took her for a good drive once I got her cleaned and thoroughly enjoyed it! Next job/jobs is to go with the touch up brush, I bought and tried to fit a chrome finish strip for the roof gutter but gave up after the first corner, no way was it gonna fit and look decent, so have been left with a couple of paint chips from that! Also I need to give her a service and decide what's the next thing on the list to replace or upgrade. Looking forward to enjoying the rest of the year with her and many miles sitting in the much improved interior!

So after nearly 12 years of ownership and nearly 6 of those years enjoying driving her I finally made it from my home island of Shetland down to the Scottish mainland and off the overnight ferry into Aberdeen! I've always been intending to head down for a tour about and maybe a show but the furthest south I've been is to our neighbouring isle of Orkney. However this journey was not for any show and the only tour I was intending to do was to get to the other side of town and meet the new prospective owners! Matt and Hannah proved to be as enthusiastic as I hoped they would be to be taking on the stewardship of her. Even the crap weather that we had to endure on Saturday morning didn't dampen things, I don't think I've ever driven the Mini in as heavy rain as what it was that morning. However after a very enjoyable meeting with them and a short test drive the deal was done and we happily handed over the keys. We bummed a lift to the nearest bus stop to get back into town, shook hands and wished them all the very best. It was a weird feeling to see her being driven away and around the corner out of site but I strongly felt it was time to move on. I feel she'll be in good hands. They were setting off on an approx 750 odd mile drive back home to Shropshire with her so I'm sure they'll be fairly familiar with everything regarding owning a mini by the time they get home! We got back home to Shetland on Sunday morning and it was a strange feeling going to the garage to see an empty space. However I've already been offered another two projects and also got to see a locally registered RSP that had been to the Cooper garages for the conversion kit that is needing a good going through but I think the current owner won't be parting with that! So hopefully there'll be a new project on the go shortly
