When i had a 998 in my mini it was completely standard (A series engine) with a 3.44 final drive and it would do about 85mph on the flat and thats all it would do on flat roads. Then i got an a+ engine which had flat top pistons, 12g295 cylinderhead, i think it was ported and had polished combustion chambers, belt drive timing kit, kent 266 camshaft and 1.5 roller rockers, 3.1 final drive oh and a single box original system with DTM back box along with the standard HS4 carb and this managed around 90-95mph genuine speed on the flat.
It depends on the final drive really, i think it would have been better with a 3.44 as it would have been revving a bit higher to extract the power. I was also running 10" wheels.
