I've never has a problem with A539's but cannot vouch for them on 12's as I use to have them on my mazda, so they were 15's .... Never had a problem with them in the wet, and cosidering they are used in Mighty Minis, wet and dry, I think that a perfectly good indication that they cannot be that bad

The best ones are the A048's, but if you can find some, the A510's are superb in the wet but have not been made for a few years now..

Aren't the A048's track tyres, illegal for the road? If they are, what are the grippiest dry 12" road tyres?? Looking to replace my perished tyres on a project GT...

Sorry if that sounded like a cocky newbie question! Maybe I was getting confused with the A048-Rs? So are these considered the grippiest dry 12" tyre with reasonably forgiving break-away characteristics and durability?

Lol, don't worry, didn't sound like a cocky newbie question! :)

Nope, A048s and A048Rs are the same tyre, usually people can't be bothered putting the 'R' on the end (inc me!) :- The A048Rs are the bigger brother of the A032Rs which are the 10" version. They look a bit like cut slicks, but they are both road legal and yes, probably one of the grippiest dry and wet tyres available (at the expense of durability).
