I was given this engine along with a complete subframe about a year ago, having been told it was a 1275GT engine. me not giving it a second thought, bolted it all into my GT and fired it up (after some fiddling). someone then came to buy some parts off me so i showed them round my GT, as you do! And he pointed out to me that it was a wee 997, not a 1275
anyway, i want a 1275 in my GT, so has anyone got any idea of how much i'm likely to get for the 997? or is it ebay fodder?
not going to go out and take a picture at this time, sure you all know what an engine looks like anyway. lol.

How was it identified as being a 997? If its a 997 it will have a value as its an early Cooper engine? Have you got the engine number on it? Does it have the alloy remote housing for the gear lever or the rod type?

I dont know, he seemed to know what he was talking about.
the engine number is a bit rusty but from what i can see - 9F7SA/H101 ?? that mean anything?
no it doesnt have a remote gear selector, it has the rod change. dont know if gearbox could have been changed, but i'm doubtful now.

A 997's engine number would start 9F/SA/H****
Is it running an electric fuel pump? A 997 would have an triangular alloy plate with 1000 on it riveted to the back of the block close to where a mechanical fuel pump would bolt if they had one. It wouldn't have a rod type gear change though.
