is the battery well charged up ?

Hi

It sounds as though you have a bad earth from the relay to body/battery or the connection from your power supply to switch or relay, you need to trace where the positive supply is taken from (should be fused) be careful even if you have 12V it may not be capable of carrying current, put a 21w bulb in line before testing.

The reverse would only engage when the ignition was on and in neutral as the gear indicator would give a feed for it to the pedal switch, possibly the starter solenoid on reverse or the reverse relay under the dash??
