[MAGUIREMINI]

Your photos of Mike Parkes Maguire Mini prompted me to find a photo of the Maguire Mini we had in 1978.

Mike's car was chassis 001, it had an Arden 8 port 1000cc screamer and was very quick.

 

Ours was chassis 002, we fitted the engine from our steel bodied car, an 8 port,Weslake 1290cc short stroker on 4 Amal carbs, we spent so much on the chassis, bodywork,  brakes and 13" wheels and tyres, (we had 10" wheels on our old car),  we couldn't afford to rebuild the engine and box, so it had to go in as it finished the '77 season !!

More Photos of this now that at long last managed to post 

 

We did manage to win both Scottish Autocross championships with it in 74 if my memory serves me right.

Had some special features like a centre steering/seating 6link rear axle coil-overs on rear .

Racing in fields with all the ruts and adverse camber corners can play havoc with the paint work!!!!!!

 

 

Knockhil Rallycross a couple of weeks later after a bit of PortoPower /hammer&dolly work.

 

Thankfully I had my own bodyshop at the time

Carnt beat some 60's and 70's racing I've always wondered where all them cars have gone in there day they would have been something really special and they just all seem to have disappeared

Not sure if this has already been shared....one of my favourite videos of the era, in particular the supercharged mini at 4.45!! The days of unsilenced exhuasts and special tuning cams, the sort of grassroots motorsport I wish still went on!

"On 26th January 1963 Bruce won the Teretonga International race in the South Island of New Zealand in a Cooper F1 car, and thrilled spectators by some extraordinary drives with the Mini Cooper Number #47, in supporting saloon car races. At this meeting Bruce was doing some exploratory laps in this Mini with Innes Ireland in the passenger seat when the car lost a right front wheel and ended up in the sand hills at the side of the track."
