The engine paint and brake calliper paint is the same price for the same size tin
In Chavspeed, also known as Halfords

Just that they don't do yellow engine paint
But they do, do
Red, blue, green, silver and black

just go with hammerite, i used it on mine and its just fine.
make sure you leave it to dry for at least 24hours though....

dont worry if you can smell the paint after driving for a while probably a week or so, this is because hammerite unlike other paints actually takes a long time to cure, but when this is finished curing its perfect. i find that the smooth hammerite is a bit harder to paint than the hammered effect but it obviously produces a smoother finish so its well worth it..
they definitely do hammerite in yellow. i did the head in mine in gold and it looks brill...

hope this helps

Thanks

Just need to find somewhere local that sells yellow hammerite :fear:

I’m only painting the block as best I can while the head is off
and then once the new head is fitted
And may be tidying up the engine bay

Will think it will have more than 24hours to go off
As I’m removing and painting all the dirty engine axillaries as well

I suppose the easy solution would be to repaint my engine in a normal colour
But that just isn’t me LOL :dontgetit:

same here thats why mines gold..
try halfords or b&q , any diy store usually stock it.

sounds like your doing what i did to mine, i stripped all the anacillaries i wanted to paint, wirebrushed and degreased them then painted. any black plastic i sprayed with satin black spray and the other stuff was a mix of the hammerite gold, black and green.

if you take your time u can really make a good job of it, itll make ur engine look good as new, when i degreased my engine i just went to the jetwash at my local morrisons. sprayed the degreaser on then blasted off , started up fine afterwards due to being an mpi. on older models i wouldnt reccommend this is u will get the dizzy n plugs n leads wet.. but do whatever suits... if you cleaned it at home then it wouldnt be a problem if it wont start as it can dry...

the reason i didnt clean mine at home was that engine gunk and degreaser isnt any good for your driveway as it will stain it :dontgetit:

Well only really doing it as I’m fitting an unleaded head.

And I’ve had probs with it running hot, but not yet overheated.
So I’m up rating the water pump and getting the rad reconditioned by a bloke locally for £15 (not bad for what will Basically be a new one)
The alternator bearings are well past it, So a new or second hand item will be painted up and fitted.

So as half the bays goanna be striped, I might as well go the full Monte and do the whole engine.

Also there is a patch of grass/waste land that will eventually be turned into an extension of the existing driveway. so I can make as much mess as I want and it will all be covered when the new drive goes down. LOL

Hear is a pic of what the engine looks like at present,
Bit grubby, but all untouched and has only done 48k from new.
But by the looks of things hasn’t been cleaned for a wile and the paint on bodywork has faded to.

But, hopefully I will have a nice engine (Although a standard 998) to match the rest of the car.
