So it was colour sanding today and the results were ok.

Spent a long time on the quarter panels, two passes with 1500 then two passes with 2000 with plenty of soapy water. I have yet to polish these panels but have started on the r/h wing.

And i found a light edge on the bonnet so it got a repaint and also the rear drums. Not much left to paint, just the rim strips, hinges and number light surround when i find it.

Slightly late for your project but found this on dealing with paint runs without redoing the whole panel. I will take no offence if you delete this from your thread if you dont like it or think it is inappropriate

Had a go at the l/h wing and A panel with mixed results.

The wing has come up well, still needs a final mop but its looking good.

The A panel started to come up well then two light spots appeared

That needs sorting so more paint i feel

YOxkct6.jpg

Anyway found the rest of the parts so everything is now primed and ready to go. Made some supports for the trim strips as well.

If Storm Brian does one then hopefully i will lay some paint on tomorrow.

Some more paint

Had another issue with the A panel after flatting back, so had to redo it again. So third time lucky. The trim strips had another couple of coats after as well and everything generally touched up as required. Two weeks leave coming up so plenty of time then for colour sanding and polishing.

Ahh the joys of colour sanding, utter boredom but ultimately required

and starting to mop

Time to start overhauling the radius arms

And Bugger!! the protective rubber ring was missing at one end and this was the result, not good

qOvE2lF.jpg

Its damaged the bush as well, so out with the money and a pair of replacements to be ordered from Minispares.

4hrs later roof done and looking good. Note to self, next time use Trizact 3000 discs, far too many scratches flatting by hand. I though i was being really careful but apparently not.

I have done the quarter panels as well and they have come up well, one more pass on both of them will see them finished. Then its time to flat the bonnet, boot and doors.

ANNNDDDDDD when thats done i will redo the wings and A panels now i have sussed a decent speed with my mop. Speed makes a big big difference BUTTTTTTT you have to be very very careful as with speed equals more heat and that ain't good for the paint.

Are you bored of polishing yet?

Some heat is good for the paint but too much is not.

Looking grand

Bored, never, oh hold on a mo, YES I AM. But its something that has to be done Ben. Its starting to pop and yes there are things i would do differently if i ever go down this road again.

It was taking forever to mop at low speed so i upped it slightly until i was comfortable and now things happen that much quicker. The G3 liquid i'm using is a god send. Hopefully that will last for the rest of the car. The S17+ really brings out the shine as well.

Once i have done the lot it will get a good polish up with 3M Rosa followed by wax. Hopefully by the end of the week i will have broken the back of the mopping. The engine bay is going to be a chore which i will throw some time at next week.
