i already have a thread for my minis rebuild here http://www.theminifo...howtopic=137592 but i thought id best make a new thread for its next step in its evolution.. a micra transplant.

a week ago i bought this

which has a 1.0 engine

Posted Image

at the moment the plan is to use the 1.0 engine to mock up the frame, once this is done im not sure which way to go. the current thought process is to strap a turbo onto it but theres also a part of me that wants to keep it na but with a 1.3 engine.

either way its going to have a custom intake manifold.

for the intake i will be chopping the flange off the micra inlet and welding it to a Toyota manifold which is a much better design and should gain a bit of power.

Toyota manifold

for simplicity i might ditch all the injection etc and go for megajolt(already on mini) and carb.

currently the engine is ready to be lifted out of the micra.

sadly there wont be much progress until the vtec mini is finished but i'll update when possible

Sounds an interesting project man  Id like to drop a 1300 micra engine into my mayfair and then slap a turbo on it and do some head work and stuff :- keep the pictures coming as ill be watching this closely.

also what sthe manifold off of?

Started playing with the inlet manifold today

Toyota manifolds flange chopped off

Micra flange cut off

Hopefully the end result when welded

Posted Image

Will have to wait untill the engine is the car to see how well it fits but I can cut it shorter if needed.

Have to order some steel to create the subframe so whilst I wait im doing little things to keep me occupied. Today I ported the micra flange a bit.

Lined up the manifold gasket and scribed around it

Then set about enlargeing the port

Hopefully the exhaust manifold will turn up tomorrow which means I can get that chopped and welded

i still dont see how you are going to get fuel equally down all the intake .. ? as there was never fuel running down them

The fuel injectors are right next to the head so if I keep the EFI its ok. If I go carb ill have to look how well it flows on a simulation (solid works) and see what I have to change

Exhaust manifold will be a modified ( bigcheif style) K series. Managed to get a brand spanking new one off ebay

Flow won't be the problem - icing is what will potentially kill it with such a long inlet. I'm really interested to see how this goes so please keep us updated, I want carbs and a mechanical dizzy on mine :)

Remember that the 1ltr gear box and the 1.3 are very different in size, if you mock up with the 1ltr you'll find the 1.3 wont fit. Better to mock up the 1.3 initially.

The gear linkages are different as is the gearbox oil filler hole and the CV joints.

Only the very early 1.0L had the smaller box and driveshafts, if the engine and box are from the red Micra the box and driveshafts will be the same size as those from a 1.3L car.

Wiring now stripped down to the just the engine loom. Got to say its a lot smaller than the vtec loom.
