Was advised to get the RC40 with single silencer as its louder (hee hee :) )
but I like the look of the rear box with a pipe on either side - just wondering will I lose a lot more power going down this route? Also what do they sound like?

sound, will its a mini so loud. sound also depends on engine modifications. i have a single silenced rc40 and 3-2-1 manifold.

power wise, the only thing u will really loose is a smooth idle as lack of back poressure can lead to this from a twin, but it wont be anything drastic.

what toher modificaiton does you car have? u u havnt got filter and so on, have you thought about a stg 1 kit with a stainless rc40? might b cheeper over all

I am getting a stage one kit soon but will probably buy the bitsseperately so I get exactly what I want. All of them that come with the RC40 seem to be twin silencer ones and its not loud enough for me to be honest (to be honest). So at the moment the engine is standard.

I want to pick up a lowish milage 998 and rebuild it with new cam, head, flywheel but thats next years plans :)

I'll see if anythings going at a lower price tomorrow because of Newquay show, my first! :)

Power wise it depends on how well the exhaust has been designed.
Most 'cosmetic' exhaust systems are desined or looks not go.

at the end of the day, even most rc40s have a too larger bore for the engine so power wise its not optimal, though there will b power increase as the std exhaust was extreemly restrictive to make the car as quiet as possible

The Maniflow twin (wheel barrow) type exhausts are very good. My mate had one on his 1275 and it sounded nice and preformed well too.

If you want more power and a nicer sound then a stage one kit is the right way to go. I did have an exhaust system on my 998 that came from minisport (superflow) which was supposed to be the right one for the engine. What i found was the car was less drivable and really lost some low down torque. After chatting on a few forums and talking to some mini specialists most people led me in the direction of an RC40. I bought one of these from Moss and found it an instant improvement over the minisport one (although it wasn't as loud) The bore of the pipe was actually 1/4" smaller than the minisport one. The engine pulled better from low revs and generally ran better. Have since fitted a 1275 and still find it to be very good. Most of the dtm systems and stuff like that tend to offer no power increase at all i find and in most cases can actually lose you power. They sound good and look good and thats usually it. Biggest is not always best. I once had an 850 running with a 2 1/4" bore system and it ran awful in the end i binned it and put the standard back on!

Don't forget to get the best out of any mod, its needs to be set up on a Rolling Road.

right if its a 998 get a maniflow cooper free flow manifold, with a single box 1.75" maniflow system (centre exits are nice and sound good)

if its a 1275 get the medium bore maniflow cb and then the same exhaust system, both should see you with a power gain and sound sweet!!!
