I'm finally able to call myself a Mini owner again after putting down a deposit on a 1978 1275GT. Excited doesn't begin to explain how I'm feeling at the moment :-)

I went and viewed it on Wednesday and put a deposit down tonight, I should be bringing it home at the beginning of next month.

It's in need of some work as it has scabby paint and some surface rust, a small hole in the roof and a couple of small holes in the floor but this isn't a problem as I was looking for a project and It will be getting stripped and resprayed eventually, also the engine needs the head refitting and a few hoses and leads etc. The wheels pictured are not the actual ones I'll be getting, the ones coming with it are 7 x 13 supalites iirc.

I only have a couple of Photos but will get a lot more once I get it home-

Hope you like the 1275, I hope to bring you more soon :-)

Dave.

Good luck with it! Can't wait to see her stripped and what condition she's in. Hope it's better than my one!

Cheers for the comments :)

Yeah it does look pretty tidy but I'll have to wait and see what it's like once I begin to strip it.

Yes I do plan on changing the colour of it. Something retro 70s style :mrcool:

It's now locked up safe in a mates workshop 10 miles from home. I'll have a good look over it in the week and get some more pictures posted up.

More soon :-)

I had a good look over the Mini tonight to see the extent of the rust problem, and I'm pleased to say it doesn't look too bad. I got the car up in the air and had a good prod about with my corrosion assessment tool (screwdriver). There's a small pea sized hole in the passenger sill, a small hole in the passenger floor, some holes in the boot floor and a couple of holes in the roof. Everything else seems pretty solid so hope fully the sill and the passenger floor can be patched and I'll have a go at putting a new floor in the boot. The roof will probably be the biggest pain but I'm thinking about getting a donor roof that doesn't have a sunroof and using that.

I sorted out all the bits that were inside the car when I bought it and everything seems to be there :-) I just need to sort through the pots of nuts and bolts and work out what goes where.

A nice collection of bits-

I've noticed the engine has a duplex timing chain and an 11 stud head which I believe is a good thing. Also the head looks as if its had some porting work done. I think the only way to find out whats actually been done to the engine and gearbox would be to strip it down. The car has 'Boopspeed' stickers on it so quick google I would guess the engine has been played with at some point in it's life, but how much is anyones guess?

You probably noticed it came with a Supercharger kit made by Jonspeed (sat in place here). It looks like everything's there. It looks like an ok setup but I have no idea what sort of power to expect with it fitted?

SAM_1781_zpsaf6dad2d.jpg

So this is how it stands at the moment, no real progress as such but at least I know where I stand with the rust :-)

More soon hopefully.

Im guessing the colour under the bonnet is russet brown (or something like that) so i'm guessing that the car has be re-sprayed at some point.
Are you re-fitting the supercharger kit?
