Great work, can't wait to see some more updates, just looking at the new front is it a different hand drive looks like right instead of left hand as original, unless I've has one to many beers by now.

I cleaned up a few parts and installed adjusta-rides in the rear.

All disassembled and measured. I'll be replacing the timing chain with a double one and tensioner, plus a complete set of rings and bearings from Mini Sport.

The body shop has the windshield posts welded and is welding the floor. He is having fun with making the pieces fit together.

You really need to get more overlap in any joins than that, weld is weaker than pressed and rolled steel sheet.

Finished the disassembly and found bad lifters that will have to come from the UK, but I'm getting the rest cleaned up and painted with polyurethane paint. Wear was minimal so I am able to keep it standard with new rings and bearings, just honing the cylinders lightly.

Body guy is moving slowly again. I'm not really worried about welds. This guy is a champ.

Here is the collection of engine parts, now waiting for the lifters to arrive ( a month or so). And some more on the body. Right hand door now closes perfectly.

I've loaded the sub frames in the Toyota pickup to take to the body shop tomorrow so we can put it down and check it on its wheels.

Great job so far, I cannot imagine how difficult it is to get parts.

Since the tail light bezels are no longer made, and I searched all over,, finally finding a set of lenses in San Diego, but no bezels, I made them out of beer cans.

here are the blanks, basically as they came out of the mold.

tail_light_blanks.jpg

Some filing and sanding (all detailed on my site), and then the final buffing

Here are the finished bezels

A little more to report. I got back to Tarija for a few days and took an afternoon off to assemble the engine.

piston_complete.jpg inserting_piston.jpg motor_assembled.jpg bellhousing_on_engine.jpg

And my body guy got busy stretching out the cabin to match the door on the left side.

door-panel_gap.jpg cabin_cut_partial_widen.jpg heating_to_stretch.jpg

Finshed

left_side_closeup.jpg left_side_finished.jpg

Yesterday I put the new seats in for a trial. We will lower them about 3 cm from this position (need to modify the center tunnel slightly).

There are only a few of us left in the UK that still use Oxy gear for welding LOL. Mind you, i do use Mig, stick and brazing too, it all depends on the job in hand.

I will continue to follow this thread as it reminds me of how we did things years ago. How many new panels have been used so far?

er, try NONE!

 Love it.
