Ok, all is running well now, but i have noticed that the rev counter needle is jumping around quite a bit. If I switch all the auxilary electrical stuff off its ok and does as it should, but as soon as I put my foot on the brake or put the indicators of heater or anything like that, it starts to jump around again.

Has anyone got any ideas??

I was thinking maybe its a bad earth or that I need some kind of suppresor on the coil??

Somebodies gotta have an idea, electrics arent my strong point!!

usually if the needle is jumping around eratically it is down to coil breakdown. had a few problems with this in the past and found it to be either incorrect coil for engine,(eg: ballasted coil on a non ballasted system or vice verser) or it could be down to a cheap coil ie: intermotor. usually it take a few weeks or months for the coil to start to fault.

hope this is of some help

Right, I've just done a test on my coil with my multi-metre, the results wernt good, but at the same time, I didnt understand the instructions properly either...

Since I changed my engine its not been rite, so maybe it is the coil at fault, and yesterdays rain on it all day may not have helped...

My next question is - does anyone have a Lucas sports coil (gold) on their car that is running Metro electronic ignition on a 1275, if so could you tell me what the part number is stamped on the bottom end of it. I have a spare coil, but dont know if its the right one (could be for points ignition) and am unsure if the one fitted to the car is the right one either...

Its not unusual, in fact its common for Mini tachos to bounce around, especially with electronic ignition.
If you have just fitted the metro dissy, swap it for a points one and see what happends.

Its always had a metro dizzy etc, all i've dopne is swap the loom. I recon its gotta be the coil dieing on me. Seems weird tho that it only jumps when there is an electrical componant on tho...

Here is the part number off my coil if anyone can identify it... (its Lucas gold) BYS SP12 45341A

Jus came home from my mates house and I couldnt get my car to pull propperly at all, was like the vacume advance was off, up to around 3000 rpm it was holding back like mad, didnt get past 3rd gear at all and on hills it was 1st and 2nd gear.

I've not come accros this prob before and its starting to drive me mad now, it was running fine earlier too. Could it be a knackerred coil and the cold night air??
