bought a job lot A+ from Jordie and stuck it in the machine shop.

Had the usual bore, skim, new cam bearings, Also powertune pistons from minispeed which i had ENDLESS grief with.

Head new seats cut, skim, phosphor bronze guides.

All new components and it went together pretty seamlessly once the piston issues were sorted.

Stuck it all together and had to do everything you can imagine, including rebushing the primary gear which was a chew but glad i did it myself

And the finish product looked like this.. until I had to take it all back to bits! the gear selector o-ring failed. I didn't know it existed but I don't think ill forget it after this! ..some call it character building (apparently)

So It eventually went into the car. Couldnt resource a lift so it wound up getting hoist in by 3 of us with a scaffold pole and some lifting chains!

IMG_5056.jpg

And thats where it stands at the moment, I've overhauled a servo ready to go in and have the maniflow twin box system ready to fit. Currently working on getting some front calipers refit.

I'd be keen to know what people think of the stainless tube bending for the oil pipe. I think its quite pretty and was used from scrap at work as opposed to paying nigh on a ton for a braided hose.

Cheers guys ill try and keep it more updated as i'm spending every spare penny on getting it running at the moment!

I also have the coil, alternator, rad in a box ready to go but daren't stick em on and damage them before its time! Ive had a battery on and ensured good oil pressure so its getting very close to running!

So I Got the maniflow fitted after not realising about the extra pipe needed as i fitted the wrong manifold!

IMG_5124.jpg

Got a few bits i was holding  back on fitted too. Bulkheads extremely tight so that'll have to be revisited with the current airfilter unless someone has K&N cone filter for a reasonable price..... no?

Also an issue. The right side of the hif44 (exact opposite side from where the fuel line is... has another pipe.. any thoughts as to what the purpose of this is? i shouldve looked when i had it in bits but didnt (foolishly, i know).

In other news got the calipers overhauled and ready to complete the front before ripping the rear subframe off to give the once over. but first this thing needs to run!

Cheers guys,

So i got the calipers refurbed and fitted back on the car.

Need another trip to minispares for bolts, nuts, clutch master & hose, but i think that'll have to be payday in a fortnight or so.

IMG_5130.jpg

Got the carb plumbed up too. bit odd, fuel goes in the right on this one, not sure what its came off in the past but fuel pressure is sorted. Only really lacking water where i need to plug up a hose on the radiator and i can go for a test fire.

Hi, what was the problem with the Powertune  pistons so we don`t fall into the same trap?

Honestly, its a long story but summarised:

Ordered and sent in for machining so past the point of no return.

Pistons were simply too tight. All of them.

Couldn't work out why but it just wasn't right.

After multiple calls to mini speed one guy was helpful

Turned out a lot of their Pistons were Duff and the oil ring groove wasn't machined deep enough.

At this point I sent them to mini speed as I'd paid to have them pressed into the rods.

They sent them back on my con rods with the bigger groove but this time every piston was damaged in one way or another.

At this point I made another phone call to minispeed, got the original ones posted up and paid to have them machined to the correct size groove. All more cost and inconvenience but I was sat with a freshly machined block and going nowhere.

And you may ask why didn't they just send the right ones, they said they had none in stock, yet were still advertising them on eBay..

All in all, a ball ache!

Also if you think I'm exaggerating I'll send you a picture of one of the Pistons they sent up.. It's not even circular!

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. So just take caution and be careful if you do go with them. As far as im aware I'm the only one to have this issue and the big guns on this forum will only play with the expensive Pistons (for all the right reasons) but omegas were way above my budget.
