this is idea for a project. ( i'm sorry if this upsets any one)
a 1.4 diesel mini not a BMW one a classic one. the reson is that
i have no money and the idea of running a car of chip shop oil
sounds like a good one.
i know that there is a 1.4 metro diesel well i think theres one.
that is where the engine will come from what i need is a bit of
feed back to see is it possible, and to see if its a good idea or not.

Sounds like a bad idea to me, big and heavy
But if you where thinking of using a Diahatsu Charade (sp?) 3 cyl turbo diesel. Light and people have fitted the petrol units into Mini's
Siggy

the Metro diesel engine is the same engine as fitted to pugeot 106 , in the metro the gear box fits on the end of the engine making it verry wide , this would be a tight fit in a mini engine bay , they only fit the diesel engine in the later type metros with differant subframe and suspension to the "A"sieres engined metros ,it may be easier to fit the engine, gearbox, subframe and suspension from the diesel metro to the mini .

it sound like if i go with the metro diesel the mini will wide and front heavy. i was think about a mid mounted engine but it is not the best of ideas. i like the Diahatsu Charade 3 cyl turbo diesel idea.

do the vauxhall 2.0l conversion but instead of using the 2.0l 16v gsi lump use the 1.7 td lump out of the cav td.
my bro put one in his nova diesel with awesome results!!!
115bhp and 140lbs torque!!! goes like fcuk.
if ya want a derv mini, would be the best one out there with 1 of them lumps in.
or ya could just be sensible and run a thou, prob as economical, cheaper on insurance and get given thou engines in their hundreds, lol.
indestructable, cheap reliable motoring!
what more could u want?

We used 17td Cavilier as chase car on the Bohemia rally a few years ago, what a slug, could not keep up with the service barge, let alone the rally car.
Come to think of it it even had problems overtaking a Tribant, mind you it was up hill and there was 4 of us in it.

Personally I would go with the Diahatsu, its light, compact and reasonably pwerfull
The Vauhall is HEAVY.
Siggy
PS I wrote the Cavilier off while trying to stay with the rally car (Group N Skoda Favirot)
