Dear Mini Fans,
I have a V-reg 1999 Rover Cooper and I bought a brake master cylinder repair kit GRK1032 to replace the worn seals in my GMC90376. Imagine my suprise when I discovered the seal kit does not provide the parts I need to renovate my late model type 4 green tag cylinder. My car's cylinder has a white nylon circlip at the pedal end followed by a single fat seal and then a metal washer (with 2 holes in it). The kit provides two thinner seals and a metal circlip for this end of the piston rod. What can I do? The parts clearly do not match, and there appears to be only one kit available. I didn't want to spend £100 on a new cylinder IF there is a repair kit available for £5. I spoke to the parts supplier and they were not aware of a change in cylinder design towards the end of production, but I can imagine that is the only explanation for the mismatch. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks! By the way, please don't automatically recommend a new cylinder. Rebuilding a serviceable cylinder is perfectly safe as I've done it many many times in the past (but only when the parts fit and match the originals). Anyone else had this problem?Attached File  CIMG4737.JPG   2.43MB   37 downloads

Never seen an issue with these, and that repair kit doesn't look very genuine. Drop me a pm and I'll check an original for you when I am in work tomorrow

Ok, I have looked into it, and I would suggest Minisport have put the wrong part number on that bag. I have pulled an AP one from stock this morning, and it has exactly whats in our picture in the kit http://www.minispare...ty=pb&pid=32974

The two parts I need are 1) the white nylon circlip and 2) the end seal, both shown in attached picture. I can probably re-use the metal washer. Kit GRK1032 does not include these parts. I guess Rover's cylinder supplier changed the picton rod design. This information should be made aware to the repair kit suppliers. I will order a new cylinder tomorrow. I just hope other people do not try and fit the parts provided by the kit to the same type of cylinder design that I took off of my Mini (which also has a green tag). Incorrectly fitted seal components will lead to brake failure at some point. Be warned.

Sorry, forgot to say.
Thanks Simon for your reply. Perhaps you didn't read my original message correctly. There is nothing wrong with the repair kit received from Minisport. The issue seems to be that there might be two types of green-tag cylinder internals. So I would have exactly the same issue with the MiniSpares kit. Does anyone know of a kit that supplies the white circlip and fatter single pedal end seal?

No problem, it just didn't look complete comparing the 2 pictures.

Thread revival.

I have this master cylinder on the bench to replace the seals.  The metal circlip, washer and rubber seal is off, but how is the white nylon circlip/seal removed?

I've tugged at the plunger in an attempt to ease the nylon part outwards but there is no movement and I don't want to wreck it.  Appreciate advice.
