Hi everyone!
I was advised by Bill Richards to bin my twins and get a single HIF bolted on.
So far I've got a replacement LCB exhaust manifold as my current one is blowing. I've also ordered an inlet manifold from MiniSpares and sourced a secondhand HIF44 carb.
Is there anything I need to know or anything else I need to puchase in order to complete this task successfully?
Many thanks.
Replacing twin HS carbs for Single HIF44.

Not sure but make sure you use new gaskets - it will run terribly if its got an air leak!

I think that the throttle cable needs changing and you may need stepped washers for the manifold to fasten it on the head, Check the thickness of the manifolds.

Hello Ali!
1991 Cooper- I'll probably put them on eBay!!
Siggy/AdamC- Cheers fellas! I bought extra gaskets last time I had to replace one. I'll speak to Manne Hutte in Ramsgate where I'm getting my HIF about stepped washers.
Keep you posted as to how I get on!

I've changed my carb from the standard hs to an hif. The only problem i had was getting the moutings for the accelerator and choke cables. In the end i cut a bit off the old braket for the hs and welded it on to the hif bracket. I could have done this using another method to hold the choke cable in place but to be fair it would only have been a bodge and with the welding set sat there i though it would be daft not to do properly. Its also worth putting a fuel filter between the pump and the carb (be careful where you put this because of the exhaust manifold) because the hif's tend to be a bit more fussy on how clean the fuel is and its impossible to clean the float chamber with the carb on the car.
Good luck

Thanks for all your advice everyone!
I have finally got around to fitting the single HIF etc.
The only problem I did encounter was having a thick enough spacer, but Manna Hutte plus a lift in my brothers Fiesta (interesting ride!) saved the day!
The Coop is running ok but I really need to get it on a gas analyser (or better still a rolling road) to set up the mixture. Does anyone near Dover own one I could borrow (gas tester that is)??
Must admit the single doesn't seem to produce as much torque as my twins, maybe because its not set up properly yet!
Thanks again

Manna hut had a fire the other day Ian. Ask them if they've got vin's, v5's, OE steering coloumns and logs to any burnt out MK1's. because I might make the minus tax exempt.

Sorry dude, I was logging off to go home!
How extensive was the fire?
Good to hear the Moto's going, you'll be out in the Supermarket car park tonight then.

Have fitted HIF, did the initial settings myself with a "colourtune" I don't know if you have heard of them, it's like a glass sparkplug, that you put in a cylinder, connect it up then watch for changes in colour, if it is yellow then it is too weak, and if it just turns bunsen blue throughout the revs, then it is fine. i haven't got an anyliser plug on my downpipe, so can't really get the gases analysed.
