Nissan Skyline R32 GTR. My favourite car of all time, when it's made to look right.
But, of course, it's not two seater. But they are POWER HOUSES.

Never been a big fan of the big Jap motors. They're just too large for me!
@j-b_2009 - yeah, its the choice which is the killer. If I can, I'll test drive all of them which tickle my fancy and then, based on performance and style I'll make my choice.
The fact there isn't really a stand out winner makes it harder and each has their own merits and faults.

trust me, when you've driven everything on your list go and drive an xkr. knock it into sport and floor it ;)
even if you don't like the look of it you'll find everything else you're looking for in a car.

Another vote for the MX5.
As already mentioned there are loads of upgrades available to give you extra grunt, and they really are "chuckable" cars to drive. Again with what you want to spend you could pretty much have your pick of the bunch.

Either an mx5 on coilover`s with a turbo (You will look like a poof mind)~
Or a 300zx twin turbo, change the ecu, injectors and run 20psi.
