Another bit of an update.

Nothing too interesting this time, I removed what what was left of the floor and set my engine into my jig, its all level and square now!
So when ever I can get the money together for gas and to rent the tube bender I will update again.
When I do get these bits and bobs the car progress quiet quickly.........hopefully! :P
Anyway here are few pics.

O ya....I need a bit of help here!!

Iv been trying to think of a way to steer the car, as you may see there is nowhere to put the rack!
I was thinking of moving the rack forward to the front of the hubs, but this will create problems.
The main one I think is the fact that the rack would work the wrong way, if u turn the steering wheel right the car would go left because it would be pulling the hub instead of pushing!
I'm not too sure how to fix this problem.
Would an upside-down lhd rack work?
Anyway if anyone has an idea how I may fix this problem please make your voice heard! :D
Thanks.

Be back soon, hopefully!

awesome project, it will be a flying machine when its done  and could you find a car that the engine is used in and take the rack from it and just cut down the arms?

Looks like an interesting project.

My heart did sink quite a lot when I read the title but I'm glad to see you doing it properly and not trying it in a driveway wondering why bits of dexion shelving aren't working as engine mounts. =]

This is a build with amazing potential, I was also worried that this would be a project that would never get off the ground and it would some dreamer without the skills but the balls rolling and everything so far looks so amazing.
A huge hats off to you mate, I can't wait to see the results.

And yeah, I think a flipped round lhd rack would work in the forward postition.

People who have done engine conversions like this usually use the mk2 escort rack which is mounted in front of the axle using either struts or wishbones depending on the space available

Cheers

Little bit of an update!

I was board today so started taking the ancillaries of the engine and other bits and bobs!
The inlet manifold was a bit of a pain in the ass to get off but I got it off!

Anyway took of the sump to have a look inside and to have a look at a few bearings!

Took off a big end to check the shell and see what state they were in!

Not too bad but could be better!

Took off a main and was faced with this!!

Not good!:(

I didn't take any more off but hopefully they are all not like that!
The journals on the crank seem to be perfect tho, not a mark on them!:)

Be back again next week with more interesting stuff!

Now these f*cking things are getting anoying!!!!!!
The first holesaw I bought lasted me a few months, got another one notched one tube and got to notching a second and it just wouldnt cut, so brought it back got it replaced. The replacement one lasted a few hours and stoped cutting again, a bit baffled went to talk to the person in the shop about it.
I did notice on both blunt saws all the teeth where bent in, compaired it to a mew one and the teeth where one in next one out and so on and so on! So iv come to the conclusion that is my problem! So if anyone knows how to solve this PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Anyway thats my rant over, I will be back with another update soon!

slow down when drilling/cutting the tube with the hole saw, if you see sparks, then your going to fast and those sparks are the teeth going bye bye, also you could try some type of cutting oil/lube to help cool it down as you go, should help to prolong the life of the saw

also what notcher are you useing?
i have a cheap one and would like to upgrade to something a bit nicer, but it get the job done for now

Regarding the steering rack, I remember a black Mini a few years back with a Granada v6 mounted in the front. IIRC he was using the Mini hubs with the steering arms pointing forwards instead of backwards but i can't remember what rack he was using.....I think it was in one of the mags Cars & Car Conversions or something like that.
