I got myself one from pl mini, it was the only one that had an extension to under the seat so it is more sturdy. Then for the electrics i went to towsure and got a cheap kit and all has been good since i fitted it :)

Here's some pictures of one my friend made. It bolts to the rear of the rear frame and up thru the floor under the rear seat.

Yes it sure is. The car is registered as a 1971 so it meets the criteria as an Antique car in the State of Texas. My 1963 Austin Mini has a similar tag. The great part about it is that so yearly state inspection (MOT) is required and the tags are good like for 8 years. Also registered as an antique I insure it as such at a much lower rate which cost about $130.00 a year for an agreed value. On the negative side I'm not to drive it as a daily transport to go to and from work, but since I work from home I take it out of the garage when the weather is nice and take it for a spin.

Cheers

thats so cool! they are so tight about plates here, i'd have thought a country like the USA with all there car saftey laws would be well on top of things like that. but then again i guess its not much of a safety issue

I meant to say that the State Inspection (MOT) is not required. The state figures that if you register your car as an antique you tend to look after it's maintenance regularly unlike most daily driver cars that unless they're forced to have a yearly inspection they wouldn't maintain the vehicle or fix that busted tail light. So no MOT is required and I only have to register it every 5 years. Another cool feature is that only 1 plate is required. Daily driver cars require 2 plates.
If I get year plates like 1963 year plates or 1971 year plates I can use those instead and just get an antique car sticker that you affix to the upper right hand corner of the plate. The sticker is also good for 5 years.

In fact here's the requirements:

Antique Vehicle
First year of issue: 1958 (dated 1963)
Fee: $10/yr. ($8/yr. for vehicles 1920 and before)
Single plate. Previously issued in pairs.

Issued for passenger cars or light trucks that are at least 25 years old and collector's items. The vehicle must be used exclusively for exhibitions, club activities, parades, or other functions of public interest and in no case for regular transportation.
This is a five year plate. The current plate expires in 2013.
