I was listening to my mp3 player in the gym today and it occurred to me that I had heard all those tracks over and over, time and time again and that I probably hadn't actually downloaded anything new for a couple of years now...

So help me out here, I need to get some new tunes but I have no idea where to start. I listen to Radio 1 and Heart FM etc, so I hear and like a lot of chart stuff, but being over thirty I therefore pay absolutely no attention to what it actually is, or who it's actually by. >_<

So I really would appreciate your suggestions of your favourite recent-ish tracks. I realise that it's all a matter of taste but I tend to like well known, mainstream sort of pop/rock kinda of stuff. Nothing too extreme or alternative though please, as my delicate old duffer ears probably won't like it. Links to youtube videos or whatever, would be even better, so that I can find out what track you are actually talking about..

Cheers.... :-)

What I did ages ago was listen to, for example, Deep Purple, then I read into their family tree, i.e what bands previous band members were in, then found myself listening to loads of different stuff!!!

Give it a go :)!

Radio 1 publish their playlists, could be worth a look if you hear songs you like on there. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/playlist/

I'll ignore that you listen to Heart :P

Some of the radio stations publish playlists on their websites.

Log into HMV digital, Tesco or one of the many others and you can listen to short clips before deciding on any purchase.

I have SD card readers on the radio in the mini and in the passat and have all sorts (including a couple of audio books for the long motorway drives)

I'm over 45 but to give you a taste of the mix I have, in no particular order;

Beautiful South
Abba
Katie Melua
Paul Simon
Michael Bubble
Dolly Parton
Bare Naked Ladies
Meatloaf
Adele
Amy Winehouse
The Beatles
60's mix
Billy Joel
Mowtown mix
Caro Emerald
Clannad
Enya
Eagles
Squeeze
Madonna
Marti Pellow
Wet Wet Wet
Simply Red

and lots of other random tunes that I have taken from various compilation albums

There's one I want to download now that I heard on R2 the other day, wrote it on a post it in the car because I knew I would forget the name.

You can loose hours when you start looking but that's half the fun

Good luck

Steve

Max that's fighting talk and normally I'd ask you to step outside for that sort of remark!! :ohno:

.....But my dodgy hip's playing up a bit at the moment and I wouldn't want to get my slippers dirty either, so I'm prepared to let it go just this once... Besides I'm also a bit busy cataloguing my collection of "Shawoddy Wody" L.P's at the moment, in order to do any brawling...

There are some awesome bands out there at the moment. Personally the Now CDs are not that great anymore, but that's more a reflection of the quality of music, but that is personal taste.

Personally, the current Muse offering (The Resistance), 30 Seconds to Mars (This is war) and Foo Fighters (Wasting Light) are absolutely amazing! I saw Muse at Reading last year they were amazing! Kings of Leon are also brilliant. Snow Patrol have a decent new album and I would also recommend Brandon Flowers solo album (lead singer from the Killers).

I also recently started listening to a band called The Heavy. They sang the theme song to Strike Back - Project Dawn.

I have also been pleasantly surprised by Noel Gallagher's new band set-up, much better than Liam's efforts. And dont forget the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Current album is good.

Enjoy! (but of course this is all just personal opinion).

Have you found anything new yet so we can gauge your taste?
