Afternoon All

Hope this is ok to post this question here?
Thought I would ask before shelling out my cash Posted Image
Can anyone recommend a supplier for a decent quality spit/rotator
I need to get the old girl upside down to get the underside finished and I am fed up of grovelling around on the floor welding Posted Image
Seen a couple on the "Bay" and one looks very comprehensive using brackets and no pole through the middle, the other fairly basic with a scaffold pole through the middle, but half the money. Any thoughts or experiences welcome (or if anyone has one for hire/sale Posted Image ) would rather go by recommendation if poss.

Cheers
Glyn

ive got the one with a scaffold pole through the middle (supplied in pieces to weld together) and if im honest its REALLY simple to put together and use, its worth drilling some holes in the tubes so that you can lock it into position of just use tryes of a long bit of wood

heres a quick photo of how mine stands

This is the other type of spit as used here on my brothers recent Mini Traveller restoration, very well balanced and can be locked in position:

I have the scaffold pole type at work and its fine. If I want to hold the shell at a particular angle I use blocks of railway sleeper and rest it on them.

mines homemade effort, from Ross who is on this forum.

He made it to suit his saloon shell, but its since been adapted to work with my clubman estate too.

It uses proper scaffold clamps, so you slacken them, turn and then tighten again in the new position. no need for tyres or wood etc.

Mounted on a wooden frame with huge castors to allow us to move the car about, keeps everything square and straight too.

Thanks all for the ideas and pictures chaps.
I'll get myself sorted quickly as I have some time off next week and want to move the resto on. The homemade option really appeals it's just the time and I know how easily I get sidetracked on other projects to be honest, so I am offsetting that against the costs of purchase in my head if that makes sense.
I think I'll be able to sell one easily once used so hopefully I'll recoup most of the costs if need be.
"mab01uk" I love that traveller and that jig was the one I was looking at on the Bay good to get some feedback on it and see it working!
Cheers

You can make it out of many things, I myself salvaged a much of my steel from a dead motorhome including the seat brackets it used to rotate the front seats and lock them... It was cheap using scrap... though not nearly fast. It took me many months to get the donor material. I have maybe $20 in the spit in new material. Make sure your first acquisition is a spit pole that is long enough to go through the car and once you have that the ends can be fabbed up in many ways.
