Anyone ever shipped their car over to other parts of the World?

I'm shifting over to Melbourne in the next few weeks and the saddest day in the UK will be selling her up so to avoid this I'm thinking "Take her with me!" - but have a nasty feeling this will cost a stack.

Anyone ever shipped one over - especially to Australia?
If so, any low down on expected costs and taxes - and export options?

I only saw a few gems in the city and most for sale are expensive Leylands. I can't think of anything more perfect than popping her round the great ocean drive - well that is if I remove the 'popping a mustang 64' around the same route ;)

drain out water etc. get some good advice on this

when went to get the car in brisbane all throttle linkage was siezed and corroided
inside was mouldy also had problems with engine overheating
and it was in a contaner heaven knows what it would be like on deck

There is a thread on the pomsinoz forum which is pretty good on this. You need to have owned for more than 12 months. Worth a nose.

We are looking to go to Melbourne too, and will be taking one of our cars with us, but not mini related unfortunately.

I moved from UK to the USA (California) in 2009 and took one of my Mini's with me. I used Classicore to arrange shipment and all the US customs stuff (http://www.classiccore.com/ - 07740 414140 - I dealt with Iain). Cost was approx 1200 quid all in - significantly cheaper than any other company I could find (and Iain was very helpful at every step along the way).

He got a bus transported to Australia for £100?! I think you must be mistaken. You'd be lucky to take a car on the ferry to France for £100.

well i know it costs around £800- £1000 to get a car to cyprus from the UK and thats a heck of alot closer then Aus and that takes Six weeks on a ship and i think you got to pay taxes when it gets there which was another few £100. but i guess Aus will cost at least double? purely a gess though

cost will be about the same as the cyprus route above, i think the shipping time is about the same 6 weeks ish barring any delays.

i work in imports so know rough times to get the stuff from china and australia to here but have never exproted but i think its the same shipping routes so will be roughly the same shipping time. obviously if you want to pay more you can get it there sooner on a faster route with no stops but if your not bothered i think it could be done for 1200 quid easy.

but not sure if you would have to pay any kind of duty or import vat when it got there.

yup even saw a Lancia specialist in Nelson on the South Island. Unthinkable here in the UK. To be honest, I'd like to go touring round he South Island again with my Mini, but I don't know about the new import laws or the WOF
