I am building a 1071 'S' engine for my restoration project. One of my mates says that when his dad took delivery of his brand new 1071 Cooper 'S' in 1963 the engine was not in the normal BMC green but instead was grey. Can anyone confirm this is correct.

I could be wrong but I'd imagine it would be the standard BMC green.

The correct colour is Land-Rover Bronze Green.
Mini Spares sell it as brush on or aerosol.

Thanks guys, but I thought from the wording of the question you would realise I do know what the normal colour would be for a Mini engine, indeed apart from a gold seal unit I bought from a breakers yard, every other Mini engine I ever had was green. Also, if my mate said his brand new 1071 'S' was delivered in 1963 with a grey engine then that is how it happened. I really just wondered if anyone else had any knowledge of grey 'S' engines but it is interesting that 'Ivor Badger' had a green 1071 delivered in Jan 64. I will paint mine green.

There was a NOS 1071 block on ebay about year ago (in US?) which was painted a light blue colour?

I believe the only BMC era blocks or engines painted grey or grey / blue were military units.
