Looks good, saw this in one of the mini mags a couple of months ago. If your prepared to put the work in, then it definatly works out cheaper than trying to find a half decent mark I boot. I might go the same way

how much do these panels cost? if cheap enough might be good little thing to get into converting bootlids to mk1 spec and re-selling them as replica mk1 bootlids, but then it all depends on the panel cost, and the cost of the bootlids in the 1st place!

it came to around £21 posted from mini mail. some guy sells them on ebay as a kit with the numberplate hanger for £50 i think. i was thinking of doing that if this one turns out good as i will have a spare bootlid for a trial :)

Following this closley, might have to do it too my mk1 :P Just wondering, is there anything you need to do to the inside? I know that some of them had a cover over the top, some dont and show the skeleton?

UPDATE Sorry im a bit late

Got the rest of the filler sorted and got some high build primer on the lid. I used my Devilbiss 1.3 GTI to do all the painting if anyone wants to know ;D (I know its not supposed to be used for primer but oh well)
Posted Image
Posted Image
Put a guide coat over the primer to help with flatting it all down smooth. I used p500 dry for this. Took a while but the better the prep the better the finish in the end :proud: I only lightly flatted the inside of the lid as this will not be seen so the finish did not need to be as good.
Posted Image
Posted Image
I then panel wiped the lid and applied the base coat to the back first then the front in lots of light coats to build up the colour. (lots of tea breaks :D )
Posted Image
Posted Image
I only had time that day to clear coat the back of the lid. I masked this all up and was ready to do the front when my dad said that he could see a few imperfections around the corners so i flatted it back again and have re-painted the front tonight. I will be clear coating the front tomorrow :proud:

I know i havent grinded down the weld on the back i will be putting a trim over the back of the lid :)

You only need to drill out 2 spot welds, you can see the holes from this in the last pic i uploaded :D
