As you can see, this pipe isn't going to work how I thought, I didn't realise my float bowl on the left was like that...

Any way around this?

Can someone give some suggestions on this? would it have to be a new top to the float chamber? either way one will have to get blocked off using that pipe.

You don't need to tee the pipe, the top of your float chamber includes a tee. You may need to get a new float lid though because at the moment the tee'd one will put the fuel supply pipe inconflict with the air filter. There are about 30 different HS float lids, you really need the front carb float lid to have a supply inlet and outlet at an angle to each other rather than straight through. Personally I like to get them both with overflow pipes too. You feed fuel into the front carb, then just connect the two together with a straight pipe.

If you can't find another lid....I would plug off the rear facing pipe of the carb on the left.
The actual "overflow" or vent will be the little silver plate under it. This plate covers the hole. There should be the same plate over on the other carb

I was just looking at the same thing on a twin SU conversion from an SPI only this evening. My advice was to blank off the 'spare' outlet with a piece of steel shaft or a bolt about 3/4" long. Seal it with a Loctite Bearing Lock. Then drill a small hole through both stub and shaft and fit a very thin split pin to prevent the blanking shaft from moving.

If you want to go to the trouble of changing it, yes. Or you could get a plain single side inlet one and make use of the tee-pipe.

Yes I'm just saying I prefer the type with the overflow pipe because you can direct the overflows from both away and then you don't get a buildup of crusty cheg on the lid.

That all depends.

If you do NOT want to use that new piece of fuel pipe, the lid you linked to will be fine.

If you plan on using that new fuel pipe, then no, this is not the one you want. Shown in the picture link, just below the bottom-right piece of brass tubing is a thin aluminum plate. That plate is a cover for the overflow/vent hole. That lower brass tube is not an overflow. The cover shown is actually still a 2-port lid for use without the long fuel pipe. (It is a right-angle version of the lid you already have).

If you want to use that new piece of fuel pipe you will want a lid with a single brass tube pointed towards the new fuel pipe "T". If you want that lid to also have a tube connection for the bowl overflow, the overflow tube should be positioned lower on the lid and you will not see that little aluminum cover plate. If you are going to that trouble you will want to replace the lid for the other carb float bowl also so both carbs could have a tube directing overflow away from the manifolds. It seems false economy (from a safety standpoint) to replace just one.

Rather than edit my last post....
Take a look at the web page linked below for various HS2/HS4 bowl lid configurations. You will note that the ones with a "plumbable" overflow port have that port at a "lower" level, closer to the lid itself.
