Pretty sure all steering wheel nuts are one and five sixteenths..

thats big, once the bolts removed do you have to get a new bolt, looks like its self locking

If you mean the nut, you should be able to use the same one with no problem....

i need to fit a new steering wheel, ive got a boss for it, but will i need the original steering wheel nut aswel as the boss

Take off nut, keep it. Lift away old wheel (and boss if there is), chuck them away. Place new boss on the column, refit nut. Bolt new wheel to boss.

Make sure you leave the nut on a couple of turns when pulling the wheel towards you. If you don't make sure the wheel is loose on its splines before completely removing the wheel, it can suddenly come off and hit you right in the gob! Yes, I do speak from experience here

r u sure its 34mm, becos i measured it and it was about 26mm

is there a trick to gettin it off, because mine's being a b****rd, it wont budge

Just get the biggest socket wrench or bar you can get your hands on, turn the wheels to full lock (left) and/or chock em with something to stop any movement, and then just use all your strength to undo it. It should pop... using a mallet or hammer can help.

If it really really doesnt want to go, i guess you could attempt to either break it with a chisel, or you could cut it off with a grinder (but you would have to be VERY careful not to damage the thread)
