hi, im having some trouble with my mini. it is an 1986, 998cc mayfair. and has a stage 1 tuning kit. when i start my car, for the first few seconds the fuel leaks out from the carb. It is coming out of a small metal tube which is about an inch long which comes out from the carb. the tube has a black stopper on the end of it and when i start my car or when i turn it off, It drips petrol for a few seconds. i was told its something to do with my fuel pressure or something. I got no idea why it is doing this but it dont look safe 2 me so could someone please give me some advice to stop the problem.
cheers!
waj

If the tube you refer to is the one that comes off the top of the float bowl (next to the fuel pipe) then its the overflow for the float bowl and SHOULD NOT be coverred. It should have a small bit of rubber hose attached to it leading to a steel tube that is secured to the top of the flywheel cover to drain the fuel away safely.
If its the thick tube coming out of the carb body, then this is the breather and should be connected via a rubber hose to the breather on the back of the engine at the radiator end.
I doubt its coming out of the breather, so I'm gonna guess you have some sediment in the float bowl or a worn float needle causing a bad seal when the float chamber is full. The best cure would be to take the flaot bowl off and clean it all out and check the condition of all the interior components. Its fairly straight forward to do, but check Haynes for pictures...
