Haven't been since 2008 so looking forward to this one. Just hope it hasn't been ruined like some people have been saying.

I love Gaydon, just because it's Gaydon. Yes it's small compared to many shows, but I love its location, it's not too far for us, I love wandering round the Museum and I find it has a laid back feeling which I like. There have been some changes with pricing this year which is good, going back to a price per Mini (for those arriving in a Mini) rather than per person. £8 per Mini, so if you get four people that's only £2 each - not bad at all. :-)

the pricing is better, the one thing that really put me off gaydon last year was the winner of "best car of the show", the car was an early mini cooper that had just had a nut and bolt restoration completed (not done by the owner i might add), the owner took all of the praise for the car and the only input that he had was to basically throw a load of money at the people who restored it!
there were cars there that the owners had spent month/years restoring, they should be given credit.....not someone who did nothing to get the car to the standard that it was!

It was my husband's early Mini (not Cooper) who won Best Car in Show!!

Yes, we paid for her to have a nut and bolt restoration, believe me, she needed it! She limped down to Somerford escorted by an RAC van! If we had tried to restore her she would still be in bits in the garage - not out there for us and others to enjoy. I don't regret paying for her for one second (the bank manager does!), as people seem to love early Minis and she brings back fond memories to many people.

Somerford do not restore to concours standard, they clearly tell you that, but their workmanship on Minis is second to none - they do an outstanding job. We have put in hours and hours scouring for the right parts to get her to the Mini she is today. She is as close to factory condition as we can get her. The 1959 Register have been really helpful going through her and advising what parts are still incorrect on her. In short, Somerford did a great job which we have then worked on for concours.

We very clearly state (displayed on her window, in her portfolio and she has a Somerford sticker in her) and tell everyone that we did not carry out the work, Somerford did. Graham, who has now left did her bodywork, and Gav rebuilt her engine. Gav continues to maintain her for us.

We drive her to all the shows, she is never trailered (only if she is poorly and she hasn't been that ill since we had her back from her restoration in 2009). For the Gaydon Mini Show she had completed the Heritage Run from MINI Plant Oxford before entering the concours class, so everyone else had a head start.

There are also some Minis that have been restored/modified etc by their owners to a very high standard. We face stiff competition from home restored Minis and are often beaten by them. I guess I feel that there is room for all of us. :-)

i'm sure that the guy said that it was an early cooper.............and i'm sure that it had cooper badges on it.
also, the commentator said that the car was on its first outing since the restoration and the car had only been picked up the day before, it was definetely a cooper...........unless i have got my shows mixed up.......

i've just read your post, i must be mistaken then because you say that your car was restored in 2009, this car was freshly restored last year, i must have been thinking of another show.

At last Gaydon is back to how it was years ago for mini lovers, cheap!!!. I started going back in 97 when mini drivers got in free just paying for passengers, then it was taken over by profiteers and last year me and the wife paid £28 to get in and it was crap, and we vowed never to go again as it was such a rip off, there was nothing there, the worst ever show. But now at £8 a car and proceeds going where it should, thats cheaper than Stanford and you have the museum there as well.

So I will definitely be there, as I am sure will be many others, my prediction, come early there will be so many mini's,and traders there it will be overflowing to the car park fields on top of the hill, and a great day for mini lovers to admire other mini,s.

were going to gaydon now, the pricing is much better and should attract a lot more mini's, i was put off the last couple of years as the show seemed to be getting less popular but we will see what its like this year and give it the benefit of the doubt.
