Set of AutoPal halogen headlights to go on this weekend, as ive got a sealed beam which doesnt work.

Getting abit of blue smoke when idling for a while, idle isnt perfect and a bit of mayo in rocker cover (isnt short runs as my drive to work each day is 15miles and car is definately heating up). Water is fine, never boils over although is brown colour. So i think im gunna whip the head off, check everything and fit a new head gasket and gasket set, fresh coolant etc etc. De-Coke, Lap valves in and fit oil stem seals etc.

Just need to call in Green and white mini spares tomorrow sometime to get the head gasket bits.

Might have to work on the kit-car too, awaiting for rear lamps and a water hose at the minute.

Good plan on getting the head off, water mixing with oil somewhere. Hope you get it sorted.

Parts purchased, including BK450 head gasket, injection manifold gasket (better than the others), valve stem oil seals etc etc.

Got load of tools from the lockup as i plan to do it at home, since the weather is forecast to be wet again. Heated garage to do the job, lovely!

Also plan to adjust rear brakes while im doing the odd job on it.

Well head gasket changed, inc decoke and relapped valves, headlights fitted and rear brakes adjusted.

There wasnt any valve stem oil seals fitted at all.....and headgasket was a mess, most of it stuck to block and head.

garage sorted, made room for the mini...

head gasket....

turns out cylinder head is modified, marked 057 same as the engine.
double valve springs, ported and polished, inlets opened up to match inlet manifold etc. nice big inlet valves

So BK450 head gasket fitted, along with stronger injection manifold gasket. all built up and back together, even treated it to new plugs.

Since I was finished for 1pm, decided to wash it and take it for a run around the block, seems to idle better but time will tell. Not sure how long it would have lasted with that old gasket.

2 doors
some paint
some sanding discs

yeah you got it, respray time..... couple of months but its planned. Cant get a good paint match and I need to replace OS door, so repaint the whole thing instead....

kawaski green with black wheels i think. cheap enough for the paint so cheap n cheerful in terms of cost.

right good days work, shame about the massive down pour half way through and i was working on the drive. was sunny and red hot so did the work on the drive rather than in the garage, then it pissed it down good style. oh well

both track rod ends replaced
both rear shockers replaced
all nipples greased
front pads changed, now fitted with EBC blackstuff pads and liberal amounts of copper slip.
rear brake drums removed, components inspected, drum replaced and brakes adjusted.

went to local garage and got the tracking set up, steering wheel slightly off so removed that when i got home and put back on straight.

Just got the damn sqweaky front suspension to look at. Thought it was the shockers, but could be anything as most bushes are worn/perished. So thats the next little job (tie rod and bottom arm bushes).

been repairing a drivers door to see if i can make it good again....

had to weld up a crack near the wing mirror / window frame area. bit of welding to the door hinge section but its now solid again. slight crease in front of door from wind blowing or something so bashed it out and skimmed with filler.

run out of time but stuck some primer over it to see how it looked.

been prepping the door some more, but got a kind of flat spot from the crease. I can keep filling and sanding, but ive got skins....im tempted to replace it but never done one before. my welding aint great, but i am told it only needs to be welded in afew spots as they are folded over at the edges.

Got some high glass extra deep black paint, thinners, hardener and some other bits and bobs.

2x tyres arrived
rear window seal and insert arrived

got a load of stuff on my ebay watch list to remind me of stuff i need for the respray. buy paint in a week or two after been paid.

wasnt happy with the amount of filler needed to sort the door, so off came the skin.

Posted Image

Frame needs afew repairs, so into the shot blast shed....

Posted Image

Needs a repair to lower frame, which ive done but no pics and needs some repair to frame near hinge area.

Ive painted inside the new skin with chassis black and also inside the door frame.

Posted Image

Once ive done the next repair, its ready for the skin to go on. Wasnt as dawnting (sp?) as I thought to be honest, hopefully with aid of clamps and a door skin folding tool, the skin will go on fairly easily.

drain holes drilled in repair section
rust convertor used on bare metaled areas then painted.
door skin put in position and held with welding clamps. skin welded at tops to the frame.
door skin bent over using door skin tool (brushable seam sealer put on before hand so its squished between)
door and frame smeared with seam sealer and smoothed off.

Quite happy with it. You can see its a skin ive had a while, some scratches etc. So ive just about bare metalled the e-coat ready for primer. It started raining really heavy and started flooding the local roads, so i called it a day and went home.

Really proud of my 1st door skin.

2 wheels off, tyres sent to scrap due to cracks in sidewalls

2 spare alloys fitted with some nearly new tyres and fitted to car as temporary.

the 2 alloys removed will be shot blasted and painted, then the 2 others removed and same done so that all 4 wheels have been done, without making the car undriveable. :)
