Any ideas where to put these except on the rear shelf? I don't really fancy having to cut through that steel.

Nah, tried that one, they're just a little-teeny bit too big.

Bugger, eh?

6 x 9 s in a under seat boat board can be done, they should fit in the board itself and to fit under the seat you mount the board more upright...........

Definately can be done. I've seen loads before and they sell the boards in loads of mini shops.

Perhaps the coil on your 6x9s are unusually big?
Are they cheapish ones?

Mine went under just about. I made my own board in two halves as i think the ones you buy that bolt onto the front look pretty C**p.
Mine cost nout - off cut of MDF from another project and then i sprayed it the same colour as the car with some paint i had left over, doesn't look bad and the speakers are well out of the way...

if you wanted to get adventurous you could build some boxes into the rear pockets its just wether you want to lose that storage space!

MCM - the sound qualitys great as they are sony speakers and the radios pretty good. The radio has loads of bass on it, its turned rite down, on max it wiggles the boards out of place and makes your ears bleed!
I presume you meant whats the sound quality like with speakers down there and I don't seem to have any problems, its not that loud when your sitting in the back but in the front its great

Big thanks for the input guys. I'll have another go at squeezing them under the back seat.

The final plan is to have small-ish components in the dash in place of the eyeball vents, powered from the head unit amp, a 4 channel amp in the boot with 2 channels powering 6×9s in the back somewhere, and the other two channels bridged to power a sub.

FWIW, the 6×9s are ~£90 worth of Alpine, so no rubbish!
