Hi guys,

This is my first post on here, so first, hello.

Second, i have a mini 25, 1984 model and i recently put new brake disks and pads on the front, so i bled the brakes and when i started to drive, it felt like i had air in the brake system.

So i got it back off the road, and re-bled them, again i have the same issue so im starting to think it may be something other than air in the system...

Could it be the master cylinder or something like that?

Like i say the only symptoms are that it feels like air in the line, have to pump the brakes a few times before any real force is applied and resistance is felt at the pedals.

Thanks,

Scott

Sounds like a wrong bleeding sequence, do you have the hynes manual?
You must look at the brake section for the bleeding sequence for your braking system.

New disks and pads should not have disturbed the hydraulics......or did you at some point allow the master cylinder level to drop too low , so air was entrained into the system?

An issue some people come across - you didn't put the callipers on the wrong sides, did you? The bleed nipples should be at the top, I think. Otherwise, they will not bleed any air out of the reservoir.

Nope, both calipers were never even removed, simply taken off the disks (left the hose on) so right sides.
I made sure air didn't enter the system as i topped up the reservoir after each bleed, so never ran too low.
And as for the sequence, i never knew there was a specific sequence so i did driver then passenger front disks first time round, then the next time i did it i did the rear driver then passenger, then passenger front then driver front?

Cheers

Why did you need to bleed the system if you didn't undo any hydraulic pipes or connections? If the calipers remained fully connected at all times and if all you did was undo the caliper mounting bolts onto the hubs, fit new discs and replace the pads the hydraulics were not touched so no re-bleed was necessary.
How any air got in is hard to understand unless you drained fluid off before topping-up with new, but why did you do this?
If you have got air in you'll need to persevere with the bleeding until all the air is out.
By the way, don't push the pedal down when doing the rears until the bleed screw is first undone or the pressure relief valve can operate and prevent fluid from moving to the rears.

Yes sorry i forgot to mention that the front driver caliper hose came off, but there was no risk of putting it on the wrong side as it was just the one, and actually iv had the wheels off again and had a look and that same front driver caliper is leaking.... i think problem may lie there...
