Hi, I seem to have a problem when trying to start my mini , the battery seems to have no charge although the lights still work , the starter motor turns very slowly . The battery is brand new and I was wondering if the problem could lie in the wiring or earths. The mini is a 1979 and ihave cleaned the earth terminal in the boot and the main strap for the loom and engine , this is annoying because sometimes it turns over ok , any ideas ?
Battery Seems Low

Sounds like earths, clean the engine earths and make sure its earthing to the body and not subframe :)

Hi,
I've just had this exact problem, mine only started from a jump even though I fitted a brand new battery and alternator, seemed to work for a dayish then wouldnt start the next morning.
I've had a call from my classics garage today and after doing all the checks on the alternator, battery, starter motor/ solenoid etc, they reckon that it is a defect battery so its worth giving it a check.
Im no mechanic but this sounds exactly like what has just happened to me...

Hi there,
Just thought I would let you know that I found the reason for my car being funny in the same way for the last two weeks and it wasnt a faulty battery in the end (might help you).
Took my battery back to Halfords to exchange for a working one only to realise that Halfords had sold be a non-compatible one in the first place for my car, offered full refund and big apology.
Maybe this is the case for you? Some idiot not knowing about old Mini's needing different batteries?
Sam
