I’ve carried out a few initial tuning mods to my Mini and I have overlooked the carb a little. I’m running a Metro 1275 engine with a Maniflow freeflow exhaust manifold and system, MG Metro water heated inlet manifold and HIF44 carb with a cone air filter. Cylinder head if off an MG metro with 35.6mm inlet valves, 29mm exhaust valves. Also fitted Minispare forged high lift rockers. Future plans are to change the cam probably to a MG Metro or SW5 cam.

As far as I am aware the needle in the carb is the standard one. Can anyone suggest the best one for me to use?

I would like to get my Mini on a rolling road and get it set up properly but I can’t see me having the time to do this for quite a while

Starting point would be BDL needle and that should run most thing's, after that rolling road.

I have a very similar spec. Let me just say, I'v spent days now trying to get my engine running right on a BDL needle and its hopeless It runs to lean, I am now looking at either a BDP or a BCE needle. My engine just want fuel and the BDL simply isnt giving it enough.

Thanks, I may try the BDL and see how it runs. Think it would probably be best if I make the time to get down to a rolling road for a proper setup

BDP runs well in mine, slightly modded mg metro

i read a thread a while ago a guy put this needle in similar spec to mine

dyno showed perfect, so know its not far off

ran at 3000 revs in third for a while shut off plugs were a darkish brown

I ought to correct this! I take back my comment for now as I have had more issues :mmkay: I will get it on rollers in the next few weeks. I spoke to Swift tune and they said to run my timing at 12 degrees. What are you running at?

This may be a stupid question, but you have the closest spec to my engine out of anyone Iv spoke to on the forum. Do you find that your engine is rather sluggish until it comes on cam? My car just doesent want to know if your in 3rd at 30... And how is your engine for economy? My plugs are coming out black and its drinking fuel like its still 40p a litre! We have spent hours setting it up but we just can't get the mixture right for what the engine wants.
