Hi i have a friend who has a mini that he would sell to me for cheap.its all pretty good but it the whole boot floor is rusted out.I dont know how to weld so i would have to take it to a panel beater.any estimate of the cost of repair?.

Is it worth it?

Many thanks, Nathan

If the boot floor has gone is there anything else that's rusted out too? Look in the rear bins (next to the rear seat) and see if you can see any light through there! There will be more than likely more that needs doing. Need detailed photos or take the car to specialist for a quote.

If the boot floor is rotted out then you could be looking at inner arches, bottom of the rear bulkhead, subframe strengtheners, rear valance closeouts etc etc . Pictures would be needed to give a better idea.

If you do a complete boot floor its a lot of work, the rear valance will have to come off, fuel tank out, rear seat out, wiring loom for the lights moved out of the way if still fitted.

You will be looking at a days work to remove the old floor, then at least another half day or so to clean up all of the mating surfaces providing they are not rusty, then another day and a half to two days to fit the new complete floor in place followed by the rear valance close outs then the rear valance.
At least another half a day or more for the final bits and pieces.

Now this is without any rust repairs so its not a quick job. If its just the back of the boot floor ie at the back of the arches and part of the spare wheel well then a day or so again depending on how bad things are.

thanks for info il go around his place and take some photos. Wish i knew more about metal work since im quite intrested. My father is a boatbuilder and is mad on wood and when i get me wrenches and spanners and watnot out it just doesnt fit right with his wood boats! Never done body work but i have rebuilt engines. My biggest problem is i know nothing about weilding and i dont want to spend money on the repair that is mire than the value of the car.which is $800 nzd

cheers.nathan

Very few of us will have an idea of Mini values in NZ. You could do a search with some Kiwi key words to try & find other tmf'ers who drive their Mins upside down. We do have some.
