Have just been to see a mini restorer just up the road, i asked him to give me a quote for the repair to the front damage that my college caused. what he has priced is
Front panel
Both outer wings
Bonnet
Scuttle
Paint
Labour
He has quoted about £1000
He has also quoted me to do the whole car which involves the above and;
Repair to cracks on door frames and door bottoms
Repair the 2 dents either side of the boot
new boot
and paint the rest of the mini
This would be £2500
college will give me £800 cash or just pay for just the front damage, if i took the cash i would then have to put 1700 towards the whole deal and i only paid 1k for the car, is this my best option?
if you want some picks then just ask, all comments appreciated :)
Does This Sound Right?

Cant you ask the college to pay the £1000 for the front damage then pay £1500 yourself, instead of £1700? I reckon the prices sound about right for good quality work though :)

Both sound good prices for the repairs stated! If that's supplying panels as well then very good price!

the college want me to either take the 800 or them pay 1100 to gooch accident repair for just the wings and front panel, i would have to spend extra to him for the scuttle.
the restorer will supply the panels, except boot as i just got 1 for 20quid, if you know anywhere i can get cheap panels then he said he is more than happy to fit them instead . this is his website, he has done some very nice cars including a few concours winners http://www.classicca...-norwich.co.uk/

to be honest, if it costs 1000 to fix the damage they caused, they should pay the 1000 for the repairs....

the reason its more is because the repair centre is charging insurance rates

They should still pay, and the repairer is entitled to charge the same rate as for an insurance job, as he has to do exactly the same work. You should not be out of pocket as a result of someone else's negligence.
If they refuse to pay the full amount, the cheapest way to proceed is to gather together all the evidence, including any documentation such as letters from them, and go to the Small Claims Court. The cost of them sending a lawyer to defend themselves will far outweigh the disputed £200, so they will likely cave in immediately once they see that you are serious.
