Basically Ive loved my mini for the first 2 years of driving, then I realised that there is a gearbox rattle which has been there since the gearbox rebuild. I have only just noticed this when I sorted my idle problem out.

I have restored a set of twin carbs and just bought a roll cage with a set of Mini fins, then it hit me that I can't enjoy my mini anymore as the thing is rattling away, rust bubbles appearing everywhere and the thing going down hill.

Just unsure on what to do,

anyone else have the same feeling sometimes?

Chuck a bit of money at it.

Rebuild gearbox or new engine (prices are probably similar) and go see a painter about rust touch ups. If you don't love it, then you don't love it - sell it.

Otherwise get on with it.

I too felt this sometimes.. Now being a good example for sure, now my Mini is damaged its heart breaking to see all that hard work just ruined by some annoying driver. So nows a good reason that i think do i just do it back up & sell it & get the fiesta ive always wanted because it really is so horrible. But then i kick myself for it and like noooo! I will regret it :)

I went through a couple years not really loving mine because of some bad work done to it. This year I just decided to either sort it or get rid of it depending on how much it'll cost. It's going to cost a bomb, but I have rediscovered my love of my car.

I think it is because I see so many perfect minis on here, no rust, no rattly gearbox and just get jealous.

But then again, my rust might not be as bad as some peoples.

All part of owning an older classic car in daily use I'm afraid........the only long term answer is when you have the time, space and cash to have a Mini (or any classic car) as a garaged weekend /summer toy /hobby car. In my younger 1970's motoring days this was normal 'hassle' for all car ownership to some degree but the difference now is that there is the choice of many other cheap rust free, more reliable modern cars which all your mates probably own.....granted they are not necessarily as fun to drive but the choice is yours and it can be a difficult one to make for daily transport duties.

In the future I will defo be having a mini that I will restored from ground up and is kept in a dry garage. That is the dream, but to see my 1983 Sprite that has been in the family from new, rust to the ground is depressing, but I don't want to sound like it is a waste of a mini as I am moaning because it is fantastic at times.

Just remember the good times, the waves and smiles, you won't get that in a Fiesta.
