Hello all,

I have just given my Sidewalk SPI a full service, cap, rotor arm, leads, plug, air filter etc etc and now it runs slightly roughly. The replaced item were all shot, I would say 20k miles and 7 years from last service.

It ran very smooth before even after being stood for 5 years.

I have read somewhere, that the MEMS is a bit dumb and needs to relearn idle control, is this correct or have I got some Aluminium oxide in the injector housing!

Thanks

Matt

Good chance one of the vac pipes from the inlet manifold to the fuel trap, MAP sensor or underside of the air filter has come off or is split at an elbow. Check them first.

You say you replaced the cap and rotor arm.. Is this an injection engine ? Because carb engines use a distributor, injection use a coil pack, Ecu, injectors etc

SPI's use a distributor, it just has no points in.

Good idea- I will check the vacuum lines first I think. It was doing the typical vacuum leak thing of coughing when you change gear aswell.

Thanks

Yep, just about all the vacuum lines are shot and leaking. I also dislodged one when I removed the air filter.

Thanks again.

Glad to have helped. Only wish mine was so easily sorted. Been trying to get it to pass the emissions test. Vac pipes is 1 thing i do know are now ok.

This is my first injected mini, I liked MOT time when I could distract the MOT tester and put the carbs down two flats and pass the test, stop around the corner afterwards and wind them up two flats again!

Just a newbie question, is the vacumm hose below the air filter box?

It runs from the manifold under the air filter to a small plastic box about the length of a thumb, clipped on the bulkhead (thats a fuel trap) and onwards to the underside of the ecu. These are small-bore pipes.
