Been looking at replacement panels for the guy whos gona be restoring my mini for me, hes said genuine parts will be much easier for him but some parts wont make any difference if there genuine or not.
Just trying to save myself a bit of money as everyone knows the genuine ones are sometimes 10 times the price as non!
I need to replace:
Door steps, drivers side wing, rear drivers side quarter panel, possible passengers aswel. wont no for sure what else until we start cutting it up, but some advice on those above would be kool!
Cheeersen!

not sure about the quater panel but the rest i would get the non genuine ones, they are just as good, i did mine with genuine ones to make it quicker to get it on the road, but you still come across problems, but my brother used non genuine ones, and there not that much different and it all gets welded up in the end might just have to mess about abit more to get them to fit

I would say out of your list so far the only one I would say get genuine would be the doorstep, as I've read many posts about the folds being to wide or in the wrong place and theyve had to modify them to get them to fit!
If you were to be doing your scuttle, again that would need to be genuine and I'd say same again for door skins other than those you will be alright with non gen HTH

I'd go for a genuine wing!
The issue you have is, anything that he has to modify he'll be charging you more time so it may end up being false economy.
I fitted a non-genuine rear 1/4 at the weekend, and it was nowhere near, but that may be the fault of the car as it had been in an accident on that corner. I haven't got the other side yet, so I don't know what that is like.

Rear quarters Heritage, doorstep Heritage and if you could afford the wing then Heritage again. Those pattern doorsteps are extremely poor so poor i ended up making my own.

I'm in the process of fitting a non gen door step and the panel is poor. It's to wide at the corners so has needed cutting and rewelding to fit the correct profile. Think this was a magnum panel.

Lol i was wondering about the door step, i was looking on mini spairs and i was thinking 6 or 7 quid just sounded to cheap! il go with the genuine ones then, i do already have a wing but i have no idea if its genuine or not as a friend gave it to me and theres nothing ont there to indicate!!
il get as much genuine as i can! just crazy how the price changes!
I was looking on Minispeeds pachage deals on ebay, and perhaps when i know a bit more on what il need it might be easier just to buy the full genuine front panel set and one of the full sides!
The mechanic on my busines park who rents a unit from us has worked with minis all his life, i know hes honest and good at what he does, he said if i supply the major parts, hel fully restore my mini and do the paint job for £800 which i think is a very good deal!

in my opinion... its always best to go for the guinine stuff.. its like a real IPOD and a fake one... the fake one may look the same... but is no where near as good and realiable as the proper one...
guinine panels should be as good as your going to get in terms of fitment and quality.. obviosuly everyones mini is different so still could face difficulties...
may aswell get guinine if you can afford to... be worth it in the end?? altough ive never used pattern panels!
the scuttle repair sections allow you to fix only the corners (normally where they can rust quite badly) meaning you wont have to cut the enitre thing out!

Il probably just the the corners then as the whole thing doesnt really need replacing, will it leave cut & weld marks tho if its the outsides cut off? or is it actually three sections?? Cant find any genuine ones on the internet! just cheapies for 5 or 6 quid!

If the ends are gone then it may pay you to change the whole thing but to do this you really need both wings off. You can just replace the end sections and have a good job but the difficulty lies in attaching the scuttle to the scuttle close out plates.
Oh and as far as i know Heritage do not do scuttle end sections, just the complete item.
