Hi I am after a bit of advice. I have a 998 auto, that has only done 35000 miles and works perfectly, that I am going to swap for a manual. I do intend to put it back in a some point though to keep the car original, but have heard that the gearbox dose not like being laid up for long periods. Is this true and if so what can I do to help in survive in good working order?
Secondly I am after advice on what needle to use for the manual engine. It is a 1098 from a clubman but with a 295 head, a maniflow freeflow manifold and 1.75 twin box system. I am going to ues the 1.5 carb and standard airfilter from the auto engine and was going to try a AAA needle, is this a good starting point?
Many thanks Dave.

My auto hated not being used All the gaskets dried up. I bought it from an old couple With 15k on the clock, they kept it in the garage mostly. When I started using it nearly every day It started getting oil leaks. All the gaskets had dried up.
I've fixed it all now though
. But as you may be aware the autos are hard to find parts & tools The only people I'm aware of is. ( Mra minis )
If it was me I would drain the oil & flush it.
Then when removed leave the engine in a non damp environment. Ie of the ground fill it with nice fresh oil & probably over fill it so all the parts inside are sat covered in oil. Should be ok for a while.
