What is in there at the moment, and what are you going to use the car for?
How old are you? (insurance issues)
What's your budget?
A well tuned and set up 1275 with a bit of porting work, correct compression ratio, mega jolt ignition etc can be lots of fun without having to worry about modifying subframes etc!

all depends on how much money youve got to throw at it and how much of an experienced fabricator you are.
if you've got allot of money but little experience a v tech would be good as allot of people sell conversion kits for them and im sure you can pick up a wiring kit somewhere. expensive because the kits cost allot and the people who sell v techs generally know there wanted
but if your looking for cheap micra engines will be relatively cheap as they are not to common conversions and allot of micas will be scraped. but there aren't any conversion kits (maybe a few) so all electrics and welding will have to be done yourself.
but a 1275 will be both cheap (compared to above) and easy.

Auto and manual subframes are different and you have 2 options, either buy a manual subframe (they come up on here from time to time) or buy the conversion plates from somewhere like minispares!
If your auto engine is running and drives it is probably worth 100-200 quid, so you could use that towards the project!
Hopefully cooperman will be along at some point to advise on larger valves, porting, rc40 exhausts etc!

thank you for all the advice i think i have been swayed towards the 1275 engine and making that better with the larger valves and stuff so any advice on that would be great ! :)

If you've never done an engine conversion before, the 1275 route is definitely a better idea :)
As for the auto to manual conversion, go for the adapters, drilling two holes in your subframe is far easier than swapping the subframe. And I believe the engine sits lower in the car because the auto is about 2 inches taller than the manual, better for centre of gravity
, not so good for speed bumps :S
