hi all, thinking of fitting anew exhaust system on my 1275 sprite. i have it on good authority that maniflow or the rc40 are the peopls choice, which is fine... but i dont know what im looking for. im struggling to find out what all the different sizes mean? im only 19 and im an avionics tecnician so i dont really know a lot about this sort of thing, any help will be appreciated.

Hi

Just done it, after spending ages trying to confuse myself.

In the end I ended up with a Manifold Freeflow manifold and a 2 Box RC 40 system, with a side exit.

I read Vizzard's book and this was what he seemed to recommend., all to do with pipe size (1 7/8") and design of the silencers.
also suggested that a side exit was marginally better.

Also they were at a good price from MiniSpares at the time!, and was a breeze to fit (all knuckles intact).

I took the CAT off mine (1994 1275 carb) but I'm not sure if the new rules mean I'll have to play about again come MOT time

Is your car carb or injection? If you car is injection you will need to keep teh CAT on (or be able to fit it) for the MOT test.

Best to go for a medium LCD with a 1.75" bore 2 box system.

its injection. you see i was looking at a center exit, is there a performance change compared to the side exits? no that im fussed anyway. so what does a 2 box system mean then,i kind of understand everything else...

two box means two silencers so it's quieter.

The main thing with exhaust systems is that unless you've got a heavily modified engine the best pipe diameters are 1.75" or 1 7/8"; 2" is too big.
If my mini had a standard injection engine I'd probably go for this stage 1 kit:

which includes an air filter and choice of exhaust exit styles.

If you are just buying an exhaust this is probably your best choice.
