Hi Tom.An 8-port will alwayas have the edge due to its superior design.Due to the amount of torqure they produce they drive easily so using big power ones on the road is a doddle. We used to run ours on carbs from a modern 1100cc bike

Hiya,Bill Richards here.I have built a few 8-ports in my time.we have built 8-ports on Amals ,modern bike carbs and webbers. The bike carbs showed the same top end power as the webbers and they fit under a standard bonnet.I to will be at castle combe and will be only to happy to answer any questions anyone has.The 8-port is quite a complicated engine but when buit right it is bullit proof. If built right you can use standard pushrods.

Cheers Bill, thanks for your sound advice. I like the idea of bike carbs under a standard bonnet but have been told that amals are hard to tune and only work either flat out, or turned off!

In your opinion could a 7 port be as powerful as an 8 port and used sensibly on the road?

+ bill is the best

hi , i had an original akm 7 port head with amals , it was built as a fast road car and even the wife found it very drivable , even with a 649 cam, loverly flat torque curve, just great great fun

Got excited when I saw this as I am in Australia so I e-mailed to get some more info:

Hmmm not convinced:

They make 8 and 7 port versions, both use standard cams which makes me wonder how the 8 port works, would think it has very restricted exhausts on 2&3 cylinder.

Cost works out to be more expensive than an Arden 8 port: Built up head is $3250 Australian about 1780 pounds, Equivalent Arden from Minispares is 1548 pounds.

Also cannot get 8 port exhaust so would have to make your own. Only inlet manifold is for Webbers so again would have to make your own for anything else.

I think you would have to expect to do a lot of development yourself to get this to work...

Any one found anymore out about the elder 7 port as i have emailed them for prices, shipping and rolling road print outs as i think i might trade in my longman race head even before i have got the car on the road.
