That sounds a bit high if only one side needs doing, but as it's the LH side the fuel tank has to be drained and removed to access the damper top nut.
You could buy a reconditioned one and fit it yourself.

That's not too bad though as the 35 is included in the price!!

Expect to pay around £40 exchange for a radius arm. They're not all that hard to do at home, the only difficult bit is getting hold of an appropriately sized reamer.

All the guys around here seem to bring them to me and I do them for a couple of pints of beer (if I'm lucky!) so long as they supply the repair kit.

minispares ones are fine... its a rebuilt one all clean and painted, rebuilt and ready to go for around 40 quid + surcharge + delivery.

2 to 3 hours labour depending upon how stubborn/rotten fixtures and fittings are...

Remember that you will need a new knuckle joint, which I think does not come with the arm. Personally, I would always do both arms, as if one is worn the other is not far behind. Grease them regularly, the new ones may give you well upwards of 100k miles. They are a nuisance when they need doing, but in cost per mile quite negligible.
