My current Mk 1 project came with a later patern steering shroud (with the 'new style' ignition key and steering lock). I would like to revert to the original ignition setup with key under the central binacle and the starter button.
Obviously some re-wiring will be involved but can I just replace the steering shroud or are there other complications with the later streering column?
Many thanks,
Bob

i m pretty sure u would need to re-wire a majority of the interior and change the column to the correct early 1 as the early column has only 1 stalk for the indicator and you would also need to wire in a floor starter botton the the central key was igntion only on early cars and the floor button was to start.

Yes, I didn't make my question clear. I understand about the re-wire which isn't particularly complicated, it is really a question of the early shroud being a simple replacement or is/was the column different as well?

i think the column is differant aswell as like i sed the early column has only 1 stalk and also there was obviously no steering lock on early 1s so there is not tooth holes for the lock on early columns
