hi all was wondering if anyone has written a guide to removing an engine ? my gearbox has packed up so was going get the engine out and send my shell of to be resprayed just wondering if anyone has written a guide ?

Haynes :)

But to be honest its not that difficult, its pretty much undo anything that attaches the engine to the car, and lift it out.

bonnet off
empty oil out
empty water out.
So exhaust off
Gear linkages off
pop the drive cups off the gearbox
radiator out
all cables and wires connected to the engine off.
Carb and manifold off
speedo cable off
disconnect clutch flexi pipe.
disconnect cables to starter motor
undo top and bottom engine steadies
undo engine mounts , radiator side easy, clutch side pain get at.
If servo fitted a lot undo and pull out of the road.
should be readdy lift out now..
With a put of twisting and pulling you can get the drive shafts free, if your struggling undo top balljoints and should be able pull them free that way.

you may want to mark up the wires, hoses etc may save some time when reassembling

maybe even take off the starter and alternater just to make life a tiny bit easier

Alternators a good idea missed that off my list..I also remove the dizzy, saves knocking it and breaking it

A bit off topic..but I wonder whats the quickest time for an engine removal? I mean from driving, to engine on the floor/bench..I once did it in 45 mins...by myself..have done it with two mates it 34 mins..any one done it quicker?
