******* off robin
That's the thing really, George929 isn't the OP, so why the comment?
If it was my house you were renting you would be out, how can anyone think it is acceptable to build an engine in the living room, unbelievable.
When you can afford your own home do what you like with it

Not sure if his rental situation is anything to do with the thread. I'm sure George929 is aware of the fact that if anything is damaged in the process, he will lose the bond.
Keep it civil. This is a public forum, not the pub.
As it happens, I tend to agree with R1 however that's the OP's business really.
How is this an issue? Aslong as there is no damage caused etc. then whats the issue? What is he doing wrong? I agree with george, ******* off david.

First of all waiting for steel to arrive so no work has been done yet. I have also being doing an interim report.
Other than some plates being cut out and marking out the chassis on the work bench top not a lot has been done. I picked up my welder but stupidly forgot my mask. I will pick it up when I go back to my garages. Next weekend there will probably be something to show.
The workbench currently has a mini front sub frame and suspension on it as part of my major project. I wish the steel was here as I have some free time at the minute that could be used to make some progress.
Second to clear up the whole engine in house scenario thing.
My ground floor is all tiled.
Parts that could be left outside were left outside. Obviously if the block and crank were left outside then the bores and journals would rust up, become pitted and be scrap.
The engine was bought in pieces and was being re-assembled (Its done now and up for sale if anybody wants a C20XE).
It was clean and completely drained of oil.
It was possibly going to be part of my major project (possibly a good thing it hasn't as I have a better project now). I can't use the university workshops as everything is being moved into the new building.
R1mini if you don't want people to have an engine or any particular item in a house then it needs to be included in the contract and specifically stated that the item cannot be on the property. We live in a negative rights country (had to explain this one to both my landlord and letting agent). Nowhere does it say I can't have an engine in the house in my contract. After repeatedly asking for what I have done wrong my letting agents snapped at me and shouted "WE STICK TO THE CONTRACT. YOU MUST TOO". I will point out that there are numerous times that they have broken the contract. I got woken up this morning by two electricians who my landlord had given keys to and started to test the fire alarm system. You can imagine I was not pleased to be woken up and at I no point was I told that someone was going to be at the house.
I have rented a few houses and these people are by far the worse that I or the rest of my family have ever had to deal with. I have had to make more complaints to them and deal with them more times than any of my previous landlords put together.
As for damage none has been caused. My landlord has falsely blamed us for damage to the house which is due to settlement of the extension where the living room is.
Finally this project is built outside. Even I am not going to weld indoors.
It might be an idea if one of the mods either locks this thread or deletes any none relevant posts from it. I can start it again if needs be when some progress has been made.

My intentions with the thread was so some of my old house mates who wanted to see progress could without me having to e-mail them individually with pictures (I don't use facebook).
I have decided not to bother updating this thread or restarting another as all it will do is start the argument off again.
Sorry to those who were civilised and were interested in the engineering.
