After changing my oil last weekend to 20 50w previously 10 40w or 15 40w. I have noticed that the car is a bit laboured when starting from cold - normal?

I can't imagine it will make any difference - certainly in what we used to call 'summer'............ look for other reasons. Is the engine kicking against the starter? This indicates over advanced ignition. Are the battery connections -and earth leads - all in good order?

Just seen this reply! I thought as much, but i also thought thicker = harder to get the engine turning over from cold. The car starts easy when hot.

What does "kicking against the starter" mean.

I will test the battery tonight, what should I expect the voltage to across it to be 13V? I guess if the battery is loosing charge that will make sense, difficult from cold and easier when hot as the battery has just been replenished after a run.

I believe it means that because of the advanced ignition the engine turning over with the spark is out of time with the turning of the starter so its fighting against it a little causing it to turn slower over.

I think, from what I read into bmc's post :shy:
